A broadbased and comprehensive study

Although drawing heavily on the soft power concept introduced by Joseph Nye, Li Mingjiang takes us through a study of Chinese soft power, and quite a surprising study at that.While one may predict that a Chinese academic may oversell the notions of China's soft power, in the form of it's cultural attractiveness, Li Mingjiang does no such thing, and instead gives a very conservative estimation of China's soft power.Many, including this reader, have been predisposed to overestimate Chinese softpower, particularly due to the decline of US softpower and it's worldwide decline in favorability. However, the author believes that China has yet to fully capitalize on the soft power vacuum.Beliefs aside, this is a comprehensive and broadbased study on the various dimensions of Chinese soft power. As this reader ordered this book with exactly the subject matter in mind, what was found was a broadbased, and fairly complete examination of Chinese softpower, that did exactly what was required
