By Mobro
This is the saddest true story that I have ever read.. Told from the Native Americans perspective it is a very sad story of 'man's inhumanity to man' and how they were systematically slaughtered, starved and displaced...they actually thought the white men were their friends. Unbelievable cruelty from the European settlers who managed very quickly to convince many people that the Native Americans needed to be eradicated. President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830. This book will open your eyes to what really went on and how these people were lied to and tricked by so called agents who were just there to make sure that they were removed from the land. I cried many times reading this and some descriptions of the atrocities of the Army soldiers I just had to stop reading. In one way I am so glad I read this book and have taken a great interest in the history of the Native Americans and then on the other I wish I hadn't because I cannot understand their reasons behind such evil behaviour.

This is a heartbreaking and compelling account of the genocide of the native American people. I read this book and tried to get my head around the appalling tragedy that befell these great and noble people. Im not an American citizen but if I was I'd be disgusted with the bloodstained history detailed in this book. The native populations seemed to respect and love the land and animals of their home territory and reverred the spirits of nature. When they encountered the industrial and military power of the US government they were decimated, humiliated and taken advantage of, and eventually almost wiped out through a policy of concentration in reservations and systematically planned ethnic cleansing. Anyone who reads this book should understand the hypocrisy of current US foreign policies. A great people wiped out to pave the way for a nation of obese, ignorant gun nuts obsessed with consumerism, Kim Kardashian and shopping malls.

By Mrs. A. P. Kelly
Gave an insight into the true story of the American indian nation. It was quite confusing at times with all the tribes names, and also to get your tongue round them. Never realised that there was so many tribes. It is quite appalling how they were treated. Very few of the "white men" cared enough to try and get a good deal for the Indians. Time and time again they were let down, treaties being broken, atrocities against the Indians were carried out. I think all the Indians wanted was to be left alone, with the land and buffaloes that had been theirs for centuries, not to be pushed from pillar to post to ever decreasing quality of land and food. The "white man"tried to change the ways of the Indians to their own, but wanted them to be far away from them, as the greed for good fertile land for settlers became less and less, so the unfortunate Indians were pushed ever further away.It is no wonder at times they retaliated and put up a fight for the land they actually owned. A very informative book, and gives the true story of the American indian and the way they were treated by the "white man".
